About the Position

The University of Vermont Health Network welcomes applications for a board-certified or board-eligible Anesthesiologist to serve as the Site Leader for Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) in Plattsburgh and Alice Hyde Medical Center (AHMC) in Malone, NY. This is a career-defining opportunity for a dynamic physician leader with aspirations to grow into higher-level operational leadership roles, such as becoming a Department Chair. Beyond the role of a typical Division Chief, this Site Leader will partner closely with Departmental and Health System leadership to shape, nurture, and grow the anesthesia care for the large geographical region of northern New York State. The position comes with a competitive salary and generous sign on bonus to support leadership responsibilities and activities specific to being this new site leader at CVPH/AHMC.

Primary Practice

  • Predominantly based at CVPH, a 300-bed community hospital with 9 operating rooms and an Ambulatory Surgery Center.
  • Care models include direct 1:1 patient care, team-based care with nurse anesthetists, and an opportunity to grow an anesthesia residency rotation at the CVPH and AHMC sites.

Clinical Environment

  • **Trauma Care**: CVPH is a Level III Trauma Center with transfer criteria for higher-acuity needs.
  • ** Technology **: The EPIC EMR system ensures seamless care delivery across the network.
  • **Procedures**: Wide variety of general surgery, orthopedics, general pediatrics, procedural, non-operating room anesthesia, and otolaryngology cases. No open-heart surgeries, intracranial neurosurgeries, or intensive pediatric cases.
  • **Educational Engagement**: CVPH currently hosts Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine residents, with plans to initiate an anesthesia resident rotation within the next 1-2 years.

Leadership Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Oversee day-to-day clinical and educational activities at CVPH and AHMC, ensuring high-quality anesthesia services.
  • Partner closely with University of Vermont Network Department of Anesthesiology administrative leadership.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the positioning and coordination of CVPH and AHMC within the Network Department of Anesthesiology, which includes three other anesthesia groups located in: Burlington, VT (University of Vermont Medical Center), Barre, VT (Central Vermont Medical Center), and Middlebury, VT (Porter Medical Center) 
  • Thoughtful growth and management of team-based anesthesia care at CVPH and AHMC.
  •  Recruit and retain the physician and nurse anesthetist workforce at CVPH and AHMC, while enhancing and growing anesthesia services throughout Northern New York.
  • Facilitate integration, enhancement, and coordination of clinical, educational, quality, and other related missions between CVPH/AMMC and other partner hospital sites within the Network Department of Anesthesiology.
  • Work with CVPH anesthesia and other departmental leaders to support quality improvement initiatives both within the Network Department of Anesthesiology as well as at CVPH and AHMC.
  • Provide direct anesthesia clinical care at CVPH and/or AHMC.
  • Foster collaboration and excellence in care delivery across multidisciplinary teams.
